How far ahead to order

In the UK, a week ahead is comfortable for a print and ten days for a framed one. Prints ordered before 3pm on a working day are dispatched the same day and usually arrive two to three working days later; framed prints take one to three working days to make first. Everything is tracked, and the tracking comes to you, so you'll know the day it lands.

Cutting it fine? Order unframed, which leaves the same day, and have it sent to you rather than them so you can hand it over. Outside the UK, production and delivery times are on the page for your country.

Framed, so there's nothing left for them to do

Black, White or Oak pine, 20–25mm deep, glazed with shatter-resistant plexiglass, hanging kit in the box. Printed matte so there's no glare behind the glass. Most sizes up to A1.

Black frame

A smooth black finish. Pine, 20–25mm deep, with 1–2mm shatter-resistant plexiglass.

Oak frame

A natural oak finish. Corner-protected in transit and delivered with the hanging kit in the box.

Gift questions

Can I have it delivered on the day itself?

We can't promise a specific day, so order a week ahead and let it arrive early; the tracking tells you when it's landed, and nothing in the parcel gives away what it is until it's opened.

Does it come wrapped?

No. Prints arrive rolled in a plain tube, framed prints in a plain box, with your message on a slip inside. If you want it wrapped, have it sent to you.

Will they know it's from me?

Only if you tell them. The slip carries whatever you write in the basket, signed or not; the parcel itself has no name on it but theirs.

Which size for a birthday present?

A3 framed, unless you know the wall. It's big enough to hang and small enough to go in any room, and it arrives finished.

A print for a milestone birthday

For a 30th, 40th, 50th or beyond, the photo that works is usually an old one: them as a child, their parents young, a wedding, a first car. If it only exists as a print, photograph it in daylight, flat on a table, with no shadow across it, or ask a photo shop to scan it; either gives you a file that prints well at A4 or A3. Old photos have a softness to them that reads as character rather than a fault, especially on matte.

Keep the size modest and the frame simple. A4 or A3 in Black or Oak looks like something from a gallery; the same photo at A1 looks like a billboard. If you want something bigger, print the recent photo big and the old one small, and give them as a pair.

Order ten days ahead for a frame, write the message in the basket, and have it sent to them or to you depending on whether you'll be in the room. If it arrives damaged it's reprinted and resent free, so order it once and stop worrying about it.
