Want to start selling posters, but have nowhere to store prints, frames and packaging? You do not need a spare room full of stock to build a wall art business.

If you are wondering how to start a print on demand business, the basic route is simple: create designs, list them in an online shop, market your products and pay for fulfilment when an order comes in. With PrintShrimp, we print, frame, pack and ship directly to your customer. Your side of the business stays digital.

You do not have to figure everything out alone, either. Our free Skool community has courses, videos and guides to help you learn to sell posters, get started with Etsy and build your shop.

1. Start with a shop, not a stockroom

Buying finished posters before you have customers creates two immediate problems: you need somewhere to put them, and you have money tied up in products that have not sold.

Poster print on demand changes when the physical product gets made. Instead of buying a batch of each design, you keep your artwork files online. We make each print after an order is placed and paid for.

That means you can introduce a new design without ordering a stack of copies. You can also offer different sizes without storing every version at home.

There is no minimum order quantity with PrintShrimp, and fulfilment has no monthly fees or minimums. You can start with a single customer order rather than committing to a production run.

The opportunity is not that the business runs itself. It is that you can spend your effort on designs, listings and finding buyers instead of managing physical stock.

2. Learn how to sell before building a huge catalogue

Your first useful step is not uploading hundreds of unrelated designs. It is learning how a poster shop works: what you want to sell, how to present it and how orders will reach your customers.

Our free Skool community gives you a place to start, with courses on selling wall art and videos and guides covering getting started and Etsy. You can also ask questions and learn alongside other sellers.

Use that learning to make three early decisions:

  • Your buyer: who are you creating posters for?
  • Your collection: what connects your first designs?
  • Your shop: where will you list and market them?

For example, a small collection of botanical illustrations for a calm home office gives you a clearer starting point than a shop mixing every possible subject and style. It helps you choose suitable mockups, write focused descriptions and plan what to share on social media.

3. Create a small collection you have the rights to sell

You do not need professional design experience to begin. You do need artwork that is suitable for printing and that you own or are licensed to use commercially.

Your starting point might be your own illustrations, photography, digital paintings or original graphic designs. Choose a manageable collection that you can prepare and present properly.

Start with a few strong designs rather than rushing a large catalogue. A connected collection also gives customers a reason to browse more than one print.

With PrintShrimp, you do not have to upload your whole catalogue upfront. Add products as you go, so you can get your first collection ready and expand from there.

Prepare files for the sizes you actually offer

A poster file needs to match the proportions of the print size. An A-series design and an 8x10-inch design are different shapes; one file will not necessarily fit both without changes.

We accept PNG, JPG/JPEG and PDF product files up to 50 MB each. Prepare high-resolution artwork, check it at the intended print size and keep important text or details away from the edges.

Our app lets you apply an uploaded image to other sizes of the same shape. That helps you build size options without attaching the same file repeatedly. For the full preparation guidance, see our artwork specifications.

4. Offer products without buying them first

You can start with unframed posters and add more options as your shop develops. PrintShrimp specialises in wall art, so you can build your range around products we print and fulfil.

  • Premium prints: our archival-grade Premium paper is at least 200gsm and 260gsm in most locations, with matte, satin and gloss finishes available for unframed prints.
  • Ready-to-hang framed prints: offer a finished product in Black, Oak or White pine frames without assembling anything yourself.

Our framed prints come with the artwork inserted, shatter-resistant plexiglass and a hanging kit. There is no mount, and framed prints default to matte to avoid the glare of satin or gloss behind glazing.

You can explore our poster quality and framed print specifications before choosing your opening range.

A sample sent to your own address can help you understand what you are selling. You can order one through the normal order process and pay for it like any other order—without buying stock for future customers.

5. Build listings with tools made for poster sellers

A print-ready file is only part of the product. Buyers also need to see how the artwork could look in their space, understand their options and know what they are ordering.

Our Bulk List tool, also called the Listing Hub, brings those jobs together. Upload your designs using a listing template, generate room-scene mockups and AI-written titles, descriptions and tags, then review and edit the results.

You stay in control of the wording and presentation. The tool helps with the repeated listing work; you decide whether each listing accurately represents your design.

The template's Easy Mode also pre-fills recommended prices for print-only and Black, White and Oak framed options. Those recommendations are converted into your shop currency for you to review, giving you a starting point rather than an empty pricing grid.

For Etsy, the Listing Hub creates draft listings that you review and activate on Etsy. For Shopify, it downloads a product CSV for you to import. Your PrintShrimp account starts with five free AI listing credits each month, and paid listing plans are optional.

6. Understand your costs before setting prices

No stock does not mean no costs. It means you avoid paying upfront for batches of unsold posters.

Before publishing, understand the difference between what a buyer pays and what you keep. Your selling price needs to cover:

  • PrintShrimp fulfilment: the product, size and delivery destination affect the cost.
  • Selling and payment fees: check the current charges for your chosen platform.
  • Marketing and optional tools: include any advertising, design software or paid listing tools you choose to use.
  • Your own obligations: allow for applicable taxes and the costs of running your business.

Use our current pricing page alongside the built-in retail recommendations. Standard shipping is included for print and frame orders to the UK, USA, Canada, Australia and our listed EU regions. Rest of World deliveries have a separate shipping charge.

You also need funds available to pay us for fulfilment. Your customer's payment goes through your shop; payment for the PrintShrimp order is separate, by card or from your PrintShrimp wallet.

7. Know what happens when your first poster sells

Once your shop is connected, matching product SKUs link incoming orders to your saved artwork. A SKU is simply the code that identifies a design.

You can connect Etsy or Shopify through PrintShrimp. Imported orders wait unpaid for you to check unless you have enabled eligible automatic payment. Check the artwork, size, product and delivery address before paying: once production begins, orders cannot be changed.

Then we handle the physical work. We print the poster, frame it if ordered, pack it and ship it directly to your buyer. Fulfilment is white-label, with no PrintShrimp branding or packing slips.

You remain responsible for your listings, marketing and customer relationships. Set realistic delivery expectations using the production and shipping estimates on our pricing page, answer buyer questions and manage your shop's customer service.

That division is what makes a compact home setup practical: you run the shop from your desk, while we make and deliver its physical products.

Start learning, then launch without the stock

You do not need to turn your home into a warehouse to start a poster business. You need a focused collection, suitable artwork, clear listings and a plan for reaching buyers.

PrintShrimp gives you both a place to learn and a way to fulfil the orders you earn—without buying a printer, storing frames or packing customer parcels.
