Want to build an online side hustle around designs you can sell more than once, without buying a printer or storing piles of stock? Selling posters through print on demand gives you that opportunity.

Print on demand for beginners works like this: you create the artwork, list it in your shop and attract customers. When an order is placed and paid for through PrintShrimp, we print, pack and ship it straight to your buyer. If they choose a framed print, we frame it too.

You do not have to figure everything out alone. Our free Skool community has courses, videos and guides to help you learn to sell wall art. Then our fulfilment service and listing tools help you put that learning into practice.

Use the next 30 days to learn the model, choose a customer, build a focused collection and launch. This is a plan for getting your shop started—not a promise of sales within a month.

Days 1–7: Learn how a poster business makes money

A poster shop starts with a simple idea: turn artwork into a physical product someone wants on their wall. Print on demand means you do not need to buy a batch of posters before finding out whether anyone wants them.

With PrintShrimp, fulfilment has no monthly fees, minimum order quantities or monthly minimums. You pay per order. Optional listing software subscriptions are separate, so you can start small without committing to a paid software plan.

Understand what you do—and what we do

  • You create or source licensed artwork: choose the designs and make sure you own or have permission to use everything in them.
  • You build and market your shop: write or review listings, set retail prices and help buyers understand your products.
  • You manage customer relationships: answer questions and handle your shop’s customer service.
  • We handle physical fulfilment: print, frame where ordered, pack and ship directly to your customers.

Our fulfilment is white-label, with no PrintShrimp branding on the packaging. That lets you build your own shop identity without handling the physical orders yourself.

Learn the costs before choosing your prices

Your selling price is revenue, not profit. You need room for fulfilment, selling-platform and payment fees, any advertising, applicable taxes and the discounts you offer.

Start with our current print and framed-print pricing. Check the destination country as well as the size. Standard shipping is included for the UK, USA, Canada, Australia and our listed EU regions; Rest of World deliveries have a separate shipping charge.

Your action this week: join our free Skool community, work through the getting-started education and choose whether to begin on Etsy or Shopify. Focus on learning one sales channel rather than building two shops at once.

Days 8–12: Choose who your posters are for

“People who like art” is too broad to guide your first collection. A clearer customer makes it easier to decide what to design, how to present it and what to say in your listings.

For example, you could create botanical illustrations for people decorating a calm home office, colourful food prints for lively kitchens, or original landscape photography for buyers who love a particular place.

These are starting ideas, not claims about what will sell. Choose a direction you can develop with original or properly licensed work.

Write a one-sentence shop idea

Try this: “I sell [type of artwork] for [customer or room], with a [recognisable style] feel.”

“I sell playful vegetable illustrations for colourful kitchens” gives you a much stronger starting point than “I sell posters”. It suggests subjects, colours, room scenes and language for your listings.

Before making the collection, answer three questions:

  • Where will it hang? Think about the room and the space the buyer is decorating.
  • What connects the designs? Use a consistent palette, subject or illustration style.
  • What does the buyer need to understand? Make the size, physical format and framed or unframed choice clear.

Your action for this stage: choose one customer idea and outline a small collection. Six related designs, for example, give you a manageable project without requiring a huge catalogue before launch.

Days 13–23: Turn your collection into products buyers can picture

Now bring the idea into focus: prepare your artwork, choose your product options and create listings that show how the posters could look in someone’s home.

Start with a manageable product range

Our Premium paper is archival grade, at least 200gsm and 260gsm in most locations. Unframed prints are available in matte, satin and gloss, so you can choose a finish that suits your work. Explore our poster paper quality before deciding how to describe it.

You can also offer a finished, ready-to-hang option. Our framed prints use Black, Oak or White pine frames, shatter-resistant plexiglass and matte paper, with the artwork inserted and a hanging kit included.

That gives buyers a convenient alternative to finding a frame themselves—and gives you another way to sell the same design. We handle the framing and delivery. See our framed-print specifications when setting up those options.

Prepare artwork for the sizes you actually offer

A design that fits one print shape will not automatically fit every other shape. An 8x10-inch print and a 12x18-inch print have different proportions, so prepare the right version for each size group you sell.

Start with fewer sizes if that makes the collection easier to finish. Check that text and important details stay away from the edges, inspect image quality at the intended print size and export in sRGB. Our artwork specifications explain the file preparation.

You can order a print to your own address through the normal paid order process to see your artwork on paper before promoting it.

Use our listing tools instead of rebuilding every listing

PrintShrimp’s Listing Hub brings together mockups, AI-written titles, descriptions and tags, and your product options. A template stores your preferred setup so you can reuse it across the collection.

Pricing has a starting point too: Easy Mode pre-fills recommended prices for Print Only, Black, White and Oak Frame options. Recommendations are converted to your shop currency for you to review. Adjust them for your business costs and positioning before listing.

Room-scene mockups help shoppers picture your artwork in a space. Listing Hub mockups are included with its listings; you do not need the separate standalone Bulk Mockup add-on for them.

Every free account includes five AI listing credits a month. A generated listing uses one credit, or two when it includes seven or more suitable mockup scenes. Review the writing, images and options before listing anything.

Your action for this stage: finish your collection, prepare the supported sizes and review your first listings. For Etsy, the Listing Hub creates drafts that you activate on Etsy. For Shopify, it provides a CSV to import into your store.

Days 24–30: Launch, check the order journey and learn

You do not need to upload your entire future catalogue before opening. Launch the focused collection you have prepared, then use what you observe to decide what to improve.

Connect your shop and make artwork matching clear

Connect Etsy or Shopify through PrintShrimp’s integrations. Matching product SKUs link incoming orders to the right artwork, while the order information identifies the chosen size and format.

For Etsy, use one product SKU across that design’s size variations. Upload artwork for each size you offer so orders can find the correct file. Our team provides free integration help if you need guidance getting connected.

Keep a final review before payment while you learn the process. Check the artwork, size, format and delivery address: once an order enters production, it cannot be changed or cancelled.

Give shoppers a reason to visit

Show the collection where you intend to market it. You could share a room-scene mockup, explain the inspiration behind a design or show how several pieces work together.

Make the offer easy to understand: this is a physical poster, these are its sizes, and these are the available frame choices. Clear information helps buyers decide whether it suits their space.

During launch week, note the questions people ask, which designs attract attention and where shoppers seem confused. Improve a specific detail—such as a vague description or unclear size option—rather than changing the whole collection at once.

Your goal by day 30: a focused collection, clear listings, a connected fulfilment account and a better understanding of what to work on next.

Start learning for free, then build your poster shop
