What to know about A1

  • 59.4 x 84.1cm, 23 x 33 inches. Four times A3, the largest size that comes framed.
  • Framed, it arrives glazed with plexiglass and two hangers on the back; use two hooks so it sits flat.
  • A phone photo is marginal at A1; a camera photo, a designed file or a bought printable is fine. The preview shows you the result before you pay.
  • Matte for artwork and anything framed; satin or gloss for an unframed photo.

Black, White or Oak pine, 20–25mm deep, glazed with shatter-resistant plexiglass, hanging kit in the box. Printed matte so there's no glare behind the glass. Most sizes up to A1.

Black frame

A smooth black finish. Pine, 20–25mm deep, with 1–2mm shatter-resistant plexiglass.

Oak frame

A natural oak finish. Corner-protected in transit and delivered with the hanging kit in the box.

Your questions

Will a phone photo print well at A1?

A recent phone's original photo, yes, just; a copy sent through a messaging app, no. Upload it and look at the preview; the uploader also flags files that are small for the size.

How heavy is a framed A1?

Light for its size, because the glazing is plexiglass rather than glass. A standard picture hook holds it; two hooks keep it level.

Is A1 too big above a sofa?

For a standard three-seater, no; it's about two thirds of the sofa's width, which is the proportion that looks right. Above a two-seater, A2.

What's the nearest American size?

24x36 inches, which is a different shape (2:3 rather than A-series) and slightly larger. Pick whichever matches the shape of your image.

A1 framed or A1 rolled?

At A1 the frame is a bigger decision than at smaller sizes, because framing an A1 locally is expensive and awkward to carry home, and a rolled A1 is the size that sits in its tube for a year. If it's going on a wall you've chosen, order it framed: it arrives ready to hang, glazed with plexiglass, and the print is done matte so there's no glare.

Order it rolled if you already have an A1 frame, if it's going on a rail, or if it's a poster for an event rather than a wall. Rolled prints flatten overnight under a few books.

Either way, check the preview: at A1 a soft image is obvious, and the preview and the uploader will both tell you before you pay.
