Printing bright, sunny photos

Beach and sunshine photos are the easiest to print and the easiest to get slightly wrong. The light is already there, so gloss can tip them into glare, especially on a wall that gets sun. Satin keeps the colour and the brightness with half the shine, and it's the finish to choose for most of them unframed.

White frames suit bright photos and bright rooms; Oak warms a photo that's mostly blue; Black makes the colours look deeper. The preview shows all three before you decide. Framed prints are matte, which suits a sea photo behind plexiglass better than gloss would.

A square crop often works for beach photos, because the horizon sits well in the middle: 12x12 or 16x16 unframed. Upload the original rather than a copy from a messaging app, and let the crop tool show you the fit.
