How to get a Canva file ready to print

  • Share, Download, file type PNG, size 2x or 3x. That's the whole trick; PNG at 2x keeps text and lines crisp at any size we print.
  • Make the Canva page the size you'll print (Resize, or Custom size in centimetres) before you design, so nothing is stretched later. A4, A3, A2, A1 and the inch sizes are all in Canva's list.
  • Keep a centimetre of margin; a frame covers a few millimetres at the edge.
  • Matte for anything with text; satin for photo collages. Framed prints are matte. The preview on the product page shows it in the frame before you pay.

Black, White or Oak pine, 20–25mm deep, glazed with shatter-resistant plexiglass, hanging kit in the box. Printed matte so there's no glare behind the glass. Most sizes up to A1.

Black frame

A smooth black finish. Pine, 20–25mm deep, with 1–2mm shatter-resistant plexiglass.

Oak frame

A natural oak finish. Corner-protected in transit and delivered with the hanging kit in the box.

Why not use Canva Print?

You can. Ours is on heavier paper, framed if you want it, dispatched the same day in the UK with delivery included, and usually cheaper. Download the file and compare.

Canva says my design is low quality for print. Will it be?

That warning is about images you've placed in the design, usually a small photo stretched big. Text and shapes are always sharp. Download at 2x or 3x, upload, and the preview shows you exactly how the photo will look.

My Canva design is a PDF. Can I use it?

Go back to Canva and download it again as PNG; it takes ten seconds. The uploader takes JPEG and PNG.

Can I print a multi-page Canva design?

Download each page as its own PNG (Canva asks which pages when you download) and add each one to the basket. Three or more unframed prints to one address are 20% off.

Setting up a Canva design for a framed print

Start with the size, not the template. Create a design with a custom size in centimetres (A3 is 29.7 x 42, A2 is 42 x 59.4) or pick the matching poster preset, then build on that; a design made at Instagram-post size and blown up to A2 is where the blur comes from. If you already have the design, Resize to the print size and nudge anything that moved.

Photos placed in the design need to be big files to begin with; Canva's stock photos are fine, a screenshot pasted in is not. Text, shapes and Canva's graphics print perfectly at any size.

Download as PNG at 2x, upload, and use the preview: it shows the design in a Black, White or Oak frame at the shape of the size you've chosen, which is the quickest way to pick a frame colour against your own palette.
