What to know about A2

  • 42 x 59.4cm, 16.5 x 23.4 inches. Twice A3, half A1.
  • Any recent phone photo prints well at A2; so does any bought printable or designed file.
  • Framed A2 arrives glazed, with the hanging kit, in a box. Unframed, it's rolled in a tube.

How long it takes

Framed, ready to hang

Black, White or Oak pine, 20–25mm deep, glazed with shatter-resistant plexiglass, hanging kit in the box. Printed matte so there's no glare behind the glass. Most sizes up to A1.

Black frame

A smooth black finish. Pine, 20–25mm deep, with 1–2mm shatter-resistant plexiglass.

Oak frame

A natural oak finish. Corner-protected in transit and delivered with the hanging kit in the box.

White frame

A clean white frame. Printed matte so there's no glare behind the glass, ready to hang the moment it arrives.

Your questions

Is A2 the right size above a sofa?

For most two- and three-seaters, yes, as a single print. For a wide sofa, A1, or two A2s side by side in matching frames.

What's A2 in inches?

16.5 x 23.4. The nearest American sizes are 16x24 (a 2:3 shape) and 18x24 (3:4); pick by the shape of your image.

Does an A2 frame come with a mount?

No. Add a white border to your file before uploading and it prints as part of the image, which gives the mounted look with the frame sitting on the border.

Which finish for an A2 photo?

Satin if it's going on the wall unframed; matte if it's going behind the frame's plexiglass, which framed prints are anyway.

A2, A3 or A1: picking by the wall

A2 is the default because it suits the most common wall, the one above a sofa, a bed or a sideboard, where a single print should be about two thirds the width of the furniture. A3 is for a desk, a shelf, a narrow wall or a cluster; A1 is for a wall you want to make the room about. If you're between two, take the larger: prints look smaller on a wall than on a screen.

Hold a sheet of newspaper against the wall: opened flat it's about A1, folded once it's about A2, folded again about A3. That beats any guide.

Framed is the choice for a wall you've already decided on; rolled if you have a frame or want to see it in the room first. At A2, framed arrives ready to hang and weighs less than you'd think, because the glazing is plexiglass.
